Carl Johnson, NFL line judge from Thibodaux, selected to work Super Bowl LVI

NFL official Carl Johnson is returning to work the Super Bowl for a third time.

Johnson, a Thibodaux native, was selected to work as a line judge for the upcoming Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Feb. 13. The NFL announced the team of officials on Tuesday.

Johnson will join a crew headed by referee Ron Torbert, umpire Bryan Neale, down judge Derick Bowers, field judge Rick Patterson, side judge Keith Washington, back judge Scott Helverson and replay official Roddy Ames.

A 20-plus year NFL officiating veteran, Johnson has worked two Super Bowls during his career. His first came in 2008 as a line judge for Super Bowl XLII between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants in Glendale, Arizona. His second came during Super Bowl LIV between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers in 2020 in Miami Gardens, Florida.

He was an alternate for the Super Bowl XLI between the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears in 2006.
