Carlsbad mom charged with assault during meeting about daughter's fight at school

A Carlsbad mother was charged with attacking staff at Sunset Elementary School after police said her daughter, a student at the school, threatened students during an argument.

An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for Victoria Terrazas, 41, of Carlsbad on two misdemeanor charges of assaulting a school employee and a petty misdemeanor larceny charge.

She had yet to be arrested as of Thursday, records show, and the case was assigned to Carlsbad Magistrate Judge Megan Fish.

The charges stemmed from an incident at Sunset where Terrazas’ daughter allegedly drew a knife on a piece of paper and told two other students “now or later” amid a conflict.

The school conducted a “threat assessment” on the girl, read the criminal complaint, and thus was required to interview the parents of the students involved.

Terrazas was scheduled to meet with her daughter and school staff on Nov. 28, but texted officials that she could not make it on the day of the appointment, according to the affidavit.

The school held a meeting with the girl and took away her lunch break as punishment for the rest of the week, the complaint read.

Terrazas came to the school later that day angry at the punishment, read the complaint.

Staff told police Terrazas was uncooperative, refusing to discuss the issue in the principal’s office, the complaint read, yelling at them and pointing her finger in their faces.

She allegedly told a school employee she was “not afraid of her,” read the complaint, and another staff member called 911.

Before officers arrived, Terrazas allegedly grabbed the threat assessment documents and shoved a staff member against the door frame.

Teachers who overheard the altercation said they heard Terrazas say “You will not (expletive) talk to a third grader like that,” and use the “F word” multiple times, the complaint read.

Police said Terrazas later called the Carlsbad Dispatch Center to talk about the incident, arguing that she went to the school to find out what was going on with her daughter, and was blocked by a school official from leaving the office.

She denied pushing or touching any staff member, read the report.

Police reviewed the initial 911 call from the school official, and could hear Terrazas yelling. Police allege she left with the documents after allegedly pushing a staff member, records show.
