Carlsbad welcomes new businesses

On top of everything else last week, several businesses held grand openings of offices in Carlsbad, showing that business is still growing here.

Terracon, a consulting engineering firm who specializes in environmental, facilities, geotechnical and materials services, celebrated its opening of Carlsbad offices on Pierce Street with a Chamber of Commerce ribbon Cutting. Terracon has more than 5,000 employees across all 50 states. We enjoyed visiting with Department manager Chuck Smith and other Terracon members.

Toolpushers Supply Co., who has been in business since 1953, also held an opening of an office in Carlsbad at 5450 Production Lane. Congratulations to Manager Jonathan Duckworth and everyone with Toolpushers. For more information, please visit www.toolpushers.com/carlsbad-nm

We also had a good visit with George Stark, who is the Director of External Affairs with Coterra Energy. The name Coterra has been around Carlsbad since last year, when Cabot Oil and Gas Corporation merged with Cimarex Energy to form the new company. The company’s offices are located In south Carlsbad. Stark said Coterra is very interested in becoming more involved in the community, in particular with education. We look forward to working with Mr. Stark and everyone at Coterra.

It was a very busy weekend in Carlsbad, with highlights including MainStreet’s downtown fall festival on Friday and a collection of Saturday events including a zombie walk, a witches’ paddling across the Pecos and Batfest. Thank you to everyone who came together to put together such a wide variety of activities over the weekend. We hope for a fun, safe Halloween celebration on Monday night as well.

There were also some very big sports developments over the weekend. The Carlsbad Cavemen Cross Country team won district on the boys’ side, while the girls finished in third place. Don’t forget that the Cavegirl volleyball team has a major home game against Hobbs this Tuesday. Please come out and support the Cavegirls.

Carlsbad’s football team drew a 10th seed in the state playoffs this year and will face a long road trip to play No. 7 seed Farmington on Saturday. The winner will play La Cueva.
