Carmelo Anthony’s Son Kiyan Being Recruited By FSU, Syracuse, Pitt And UAlbany, Among Others

Upon opening at midnight on Thursday, colleges got to work with offers to the class of 2025 basketball recruits, and for the son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, they came quickly.

Kiyan Anthony tweeted he had received offers from several schools. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, this includes the Florida State Seminoles, his father’s alma mater Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Albany and Providence, to name a few of the D1 programs.

The New York Times’s Adam Zagoria has also said Kiyan has calls planned with Maryland and Syracuse.

According to 247Sports’ rankings, the 6-foot-4 rising junior and 4-star recruit is currently No. 62 nationally, the No. 14 shooting guard and the No. 2 player in New York in the 2025 class. 

A product of the Brookville Long Island Lutheran School in New York, Kiyan has racked up offers from Indiana, Tennessee and Illinois since the beginning of May.

The Class of 2025 guard has expressed interest in the University of Connecticut and is reportedly “close” with new Syracuse head coach Adrian Autry. It’s still very early in his recruitment, with Kiyan a long way from deciding, so anything can and likely will change.

Kiyan is the only son of Carmelo and La La Anthony, who are now separated. His father, Carmelo, announced his retirement on May 22. He averaged a career of 22.5 PPG and 6.2 RPG and is 9th all-time on the NBA’s scoring leaderboard.

He was drafted No. 3 overall in the 2003 NBA Draft, after which he played for the Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers across his 19-year professional career.

Kiyan is now part of a growing list of the sons of current/former NBA stars looking to make their marks on the court.

Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, is considered a first-round prospect for the 2024 NBA Draft. He recently committed to the University of Southern California. D.J. Wagner, Cameron Boozer and Dylan Harper are among other high-profile sons of former NBA players set to distinguish themselves in the coming years.

And Kiyan has made it clear he is ready to shine as a basketball player, with the full backing of his future Hall of Famer father.

“[Kiyan], chase your dreams,” Carmelo said in his retirement video. “Let nothing hold you back. Let nothing intervene. My legacy, now and forever, lives on through you. And I’ll always be proud of all that you do.”
