Carnegie Carnival raises more than $250,000

Feb. 20—The Carnegie Carnival, which culminated Saturday with parades, music and a half-marathon, raised more than $250,000 for the Carnegie Visual Arts Center and other local nonprofit organizations.

Money raised stemmed from parade and race registration fees as well as from events hosted by king, queen, prince, princess and canine candidates.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Carnegie, CASA of North Alabama, which provides court-appointed special advocates to children in the judicial system, and Paws 52 Rescue.

The Carnegie will use funds for outreach art experiences and to ensure the visual arts center remains free to the public.

On Saturday, the Carnegie Carnival crowned Juan Penuelas as king, Melissa Parker as queen, Crawford Lang as prince, Mary Bibb Pylant as princess, Lenny McNeill as sir bow wow and Harley Bankston as lady barks-a-lot.
