Carnival Cruise Line unveils plans for massive new ship

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Carnival Cruise Line unveiled plans to build a massive new ship Tuesday.

The cruise line said German shipbuilder Meyer Werft will build the new 180,000-ton ship.

The massive ship will carry over 6,400 guests and be powered on a liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology platform, Carnival said. It will be part of the cruise line’s Excel-class ships, joining the Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration and Carnival Jubilee.
