Carol singers visit German Chancellor Olaf Scholz

Thousands of children throughout Germany traditionally spread festive cheer during the first week of January, collecting money for international children's charity programs.

This year, 2022, the money is being raised for a mother and child health program in South Sudan.

The children, this year in reduced group numbers because of the coronavirus, dressed up as the three kings who visited the baby Jesus shortly after his birth, came to the chancellery and sang a song.

After that, they recite the traditional blessing "Christus mansionem benedicat" ("May Christ bless this house") and write the initials of the three kings Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar with chalk on the door to confer blessings on the occupants for the New Year.
