Luxury fashion label Carolina Herrera has confirmed that it will soon expand its empire, with the launch of a makeup range.
As reported to WWD, the brand -- traditionally known for women's apparel, bridal wear, fragrances, eyewear and accessories -- revealed that it will be introducing its first range of lipsticks and compacts next month, as it looks to capitalize on the lucrative beauty boom.
Dubbed "Carolina Herrera New York Makeup", the line will debut starting in mid-March and is said to come in "ready-to-wear" packaging "so sculptural and precious that it can double as jewellery".
Whilst taking inspiration from the personal elegance of the company's founder -- and the color-intensive approach of the fashion house's current creative director, Wes Gordon -- the idea itself was the brainchild of Gordon and Herrera's daughter, Carolina A. Herrera, who is known inside the house as Carolina A.
"Mrs. Herrera is a big fan of vintage jewelry and has the most amazing collection, so that in part sparked the idea of mimicking precious objects for the design. We wanted each product to double up as something eye-catching that you could wear and have a conversation piece at the same time," Gordon told the trade magazine.
The line is expected to span 36 shades of lipstick, in colors ranging from pinks to berries, reds, corals, browns and nudes, with textures in sheer, satin and matte; with the compacts comprising embellishing powders in eight shades, a universal mattifying powder and an illuminating cream-to-powder highlighter.
According to WWD, the makeup line will be launched first on Harrods' e-commerce site on March 15, followed by Harvey Nichols Kuwait on March 25, with the expected retail price in Europe for the lipstick line ranging from 14 euros for a charm to 20 euros for a cap, 29 euros for a refill and 85 euros for the lipstick with charms, bangle and a tassel. For the compacts, the prices start at 10 euros, with a metal base around 32 euros and a full compact for 80 euros.
