Carolinas Top 25: 7 new teams in ranking of the top NC, SC high school football teams

Seven new teams have moved into The Carolinas Top 25 high school football poll this week.

The poll, started by McClatchy newspapers in North and South Carolina this season, attempts to rank the top 25 teams, from both states, into one poll.

And this week, there are lots of changes:

Preseason No. 1 Dutch Fork (SC) played Colquitt County (GA) and lost 48-17. Colquitt led 34-0 and moved up five spots to No. 13 in the High School Football America national rankings. Dutch Fork fell from No. 11 to 37.

In this weeks Carolinas’ poll, the Silver Foxes dropped to No. 4.

That allowed Providence Day (NC) to move up to the top spot from No. 2. The Chargers beat Northwestern (SC) in their season opener Saturday. It was the first-ever high school football game played at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers. Northwestern fell to No. 14 this week, down five spots in the Carolinas’ poll.

In all, seven new teams joined this week’s poll after Week 1, including Crest (NC), which jumped from not ranked to No. 5 after upsetting S.C. power Gaffney. Gaffney fell from No. 5 to No. 20.

Other new teams this week include: No. 16 Cleveland (NC), No. 17 Rolesville (NC), No. 21 Pinecrest (NC), No. 22 Sumter (SC), No. 24 Leesville Road (NC) and No. 25 Hartsville (SC).
