Carowinds’ Fury 325 earns global recognition + Million-dollar homes on Charlotte housing market

Carowinds customers were back on the Fury 325 roller coaster Aug. 10, the day it reopened after being closed for more than a month following the discovery of a cracked pillar on the ride.

Carowinds’ recent problematic roller coaster earned some global recognition.

Amusement Today named Fury 325 the “Best Steel Coaster” in the world during a weekend industry awards ceremony. This came just months after the roller coaster closed for an extended period of time after a crack was found in one of its support structures.

It was a rough debut for the new-look Panthers yesterday.

Carolina turned the ball over three times in a 24-10 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, and head coach Frank Reich is shouldering the blame for at least one of those giveaways.

3. From a basement in Charlotte to the NC statehouse: Psychedelic therapy gets a new look

North Carolina legislators are considering a new law that would allow some hospitals to offer psychedelic drug therapy to patients with post traumatic stress disorder.

One organization in Charlotte is already doing what it can to offer this therapy short of providing the substances and supervising those consuming MDMA or pscilocybin.

4. Million-dollar homes in the Charlotte region are on the rise, following national trend

The home of Former North Carolina congressman Robert Pittenger and his wife, Suzanne, are selling their “palatial palace” south Charlotte mansion. The asking price is more than $8 million.

As growth continues in the Charlotte region, more and more homes with price tags over $1 million are popping up.

“I think that we’re seeing more and more people move from outside of North Carolina, from places like California and New York, and they’re already used to the higher purchase prices,” said Jessica Grier an agent with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty. “So, it’s just supporting the rise here.”
