Carpet Cleaner Imposters Burglarize House: Burr Ridge Cops

BURR RIDGE, IL — Three men entered a Burr Ridge home and stole cash and jewelry Monday afternoon, according to a police news release. The resident saw the men from a distance and went to talk with them. They told her they were from a carpet cleaning company and were at the wrong address, police said. She noticed the thefts afterward.

The incident happened about 2:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Clover Meadow. The suspects left in a silver Ford Escape, with no front license plate and the rear license plate covered with a plastic obstruction, police said.

According to Burr Ridge police, the suspects are believed to have committed similar crimes in area suburbs. In one case, they distracted a resident with a ruse that they were from a town's water department. With the victim distracted, two of the suspects entered the house and stole property, police said.

Residents are asked to lock their doors, including car doors. No village employees will need to enter a home to "check your water, "check for COVID" or take a homeowner to the backyard to "look at trees."
