Michigan State Rep. Steve Carra announced Tuesday he is running for Michigan's State House in the 36th Legislative District, cutting off his bid for Congress after the district lines were redrawn.

Carra said that prior to redistricting, “I made the decision to replace Congressman Fred Upton and President Trump agreed when he endorsed me, but the district lines have changed. In order to ensure the vote is not split, I have decided to seek re-election as state representative for St. Joseph and Cass counties.”

Because of the redistricting, Former President Donald Trump has endorsed Bill Huizenga. Carra said he supports Huizenga’s bid.

“Now that Bill Huizenga has President Trump’s and my support in the newly formed 4th Congressional district, he has a clear path to victory,” Carra said.

Throughout the state and nation, Carra said, “I am most known for winning an election lawsuit, leading the effort calling for a full forensic audit, and continuing to champion the charge to get to the bottom of what happened in 2020.”

Carra said he appreciates Trump’s support, which was announced in September, as he ran to unseat long-term congressman Upton, whom he calls a “RINO” — Republican In Name Only.

“Most Americans know the war has only just begun and it is an honor to be chosen by President Trump in the fight to save our country,” Carra said.

Carra will face opposition in his bid to retain his seat. Conservatives Jack Coleman, Jerry Solis and Scott McGraw have also filed for election this year.
