Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd describes mixed emotions on Mother’s Day
Billie Lourd, the only child of late “Star Wars” actress Carrie Fisher, detailed the complex range of emotions she experiences on Mother’s Day in a poignant post Sunday.
Fisher, who played the rebellious Princess Leia in six “Star Wars” films, died in 2016 at age 60.
“Even though it’s been over 6 years since she died, when I first wake up, this still feels like her day — not mine,” Lourd, 30, captioned an Instagram post. “But as the day goes on I remember it is my day too now. I am a mother to two magical little creatures that I adore to my core and there is nothing that brings me more joy than being their mother.”
Lourd has a 2-year-old son and 6-month-old daughter with actor Austen Rydell, whom she married last year. She appeared alongside her mom in three “Star Wars” movies as the Resistance member Lt. Connix.
Her post Sunday featured a throwback photo showing Lourd and Fisher together.
“Even though she’s not here, it’s still her day. It’s our day now,” Lourd wrote. “And that is both sad and weirdly beautiful at the same time. With the magic of life comes the reality of grief. ... So like I say every year. Happy Mother’s Day but also griefy / sad / lonely / estranged / frustrated / etc Mother’s Day!”
Earlier this month, Fisher was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
