CW Peoples receives award

Matt Peoples, Director of Public Service for the City of Canal Winchester, has been awarded the 2022 Clyde “Butch” Seidle Public Works Servant Leader Award, sponsored by the American Public Works Association Ohio Chapter (OAPWA). The award, named in honor of the late Clyde Seidle, recognizes individuals that serve as dedicated public works servant leaders and creators of public value over a sustained period of time.

Peoples started his career with Canal Winchester in 1994 in the Water Reclamation Department. He was able to build upon his public works knowledge by serving as the project manager for plant expansions, replacements, and rehabilitation projects. Over time, Peoples climbed the ranks to be the first-ever Public Service Director for Canal Winchester, overseeing every public works department including water, wastewater, stormwater, urban forestry, information technology, and streets, lands, and buildings. Peoples has served in this position since 2006.

Peoples was nominated for this award for his exceptional service to the City of Canal Winchester by Mayor Mike Ebert and a group of his peers. “If you know Matt, you know how humble he is,” shared Mayor Ebert. “This is never something he would ask for, but it is certainly well deserved.”

Peoples was one of three nominees to receive the award, which was presented to him by OAPWA Past President Larry Lester and member Glenn Marzluf.
