ROSSVILLE, Ind. — The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of two of its own.

Deputy Noah Rainey and Jail Deputy Dane Northcutt died early Saturday while responding to a call east of Rossville in Clinton County, according to Indiana State Police, who are investigating the fatality.

A deputy Rossville town marshal attempted to stop a car that fled, and the deputy town marshal radioed for assistance, police said.

Rainey, who was on duty driving his sheriff's patrol car, responded. Northcutt was off duty and a ride-along with Rainey.

As the patrol car headed east on Indiana 26, it left the southside of the road near Washington Street in Sedalia, which is about four miles east of Rossville. The car struck a utility pole, causing the fatal injuries, according to police, who do not know what caused Rainey to lose control of the car.

The deputy Rossville town marshal rolled up onto the scene and attempted life-saving first aid, but the two men were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Indiana State Police.
