Carrollton schools Superintendent David Quattrochi suspended, investigation pending

CARROLLTON - Superintendent David Quattrochi has been suspended with pay while an attorney hired by the Carrollton school board investigates allegations that first were brought to the state.

The Carrollton Exempted Village Board of Education ratified Quattrochi's suspension after emerging from a closed-door executive session Wednesday morning. During the same meeting, the board named Carrollton High School Principal David Davis as acting superintendent in the absence of Quattrochi.

Columbus attorney Jason Stuckey of the firm Bricker & Eckler also was hired by the board Wednesday to begin an investigation.

The reason the board is suspending Quattrochi has not been publicly disclosed. Immediately following the Wednesday board meeting, school officials declined to comment to the media. But a written statement issued later states that allegations have been made in reference to Quattrochi to the Ohio Department of Education's Office of Professional Conduct.

And there is "pending" litigation, or potential legal action, that could be involved in the matter, according to school officials.

"There is nothing in the courts right now," Board President Dan Ries said on Tuesday. "We have to do our investigation to see where we are going. We don't talk about pending litigation. It will eventually come out more than likely, like everything else does."

David Quattrochi has been superintendent of the Carrollton Exempted Village School District since 2012.

Quattrochi had been ordered earlier this week to not show up for work at the administration office. Messages left for Quattrochi on Tuesday and Wednesday were not immediately returned. He did not attend Wednesday's board meeting.

"We are not looking to hear from him now or any time soon," Ries said.

The Ohio Department of Education declined to provide details of any complaint filed against Quattrochi.

"The department can neither confirm nor deny the presence of an investigation of a licensed educator," said Lacey Snode, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Education, in an emailed statement.

Quattrochi has been superintendent of the Carrollton Exempted Village School District, which enrolls nearly 1,800 students, since 2012. Prior to that, he had been superintendent of Edison Local School District in the Steubenville area. Quattrochi also was among the finalists considered for the state superintendent position with the Ohio Department of Education earlier this year.
