Carson forest supervisor to step in for S.F. leader during D.C. duty

Jul. 9—Carson National Forest Supervisor James Duran will oversee the Santa Fe National Forest while the regular supervisor is at her temporary assignment in Washington, D.C.

Duran will be the Santa Fe forest's acting supervisor during the four months when Debbie Cress is serving as an acting deputy chief of staff at the U.S. Forest Service's headquarters.

Both Duran and Cress begin their temporary jobs Monday.

Duran has been supervisor of the Carson National Forest since 2014.

"His extensive experience and dedicated focus on ensuring the Forest Service works closely with local communities exemplify why James is uniquely qualified for continuing the important post-fire efforts that lie ahead for the Santa Fe and Carson national forests," Michiko Martin, Southwestern Region forester, said in a statement.

The agency plans to appoint an acting deputy supervisor to assist with managing the Carson forest.
