Carthage man sentenced for child pornography told undercover agent desire to kidnap child over Kik

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Carthage man who told an undercover agent he wanted to abduct and rape a child, received a 12-year prison sentence on child porn charges.

James Beam, 36, was sentenced in federal court in Springfield on Tuesday to 12 years in federal prison without parole. Upon release from prison, Beam will be on supervised probation for 20 years. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Beam pleaded guilty to receiving and distributing child pornography back on September 20, 2023.

Earlier that same year, an undercover federal agent made contact with Beam over the social app Kik. Beam expressed a sexual interest in children and his desire to meet with the purpose of engaging in sexual activity with the agent’s niece, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri.

Beam also sent the agent a video of child pornography and confided his intent to abduct and rape a child – adding there were houses in the country where he could take the child.

Due to the imminent risk of a child, the agent and investigators retrieved Beam’s Kik account information, identified, and located him.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James J. Kelleher. It was investigated by the Southwest Cybercrimes Task Force and the FBI.
