Carvana opens second car vending machine in San Diego area

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Carvana, known for its multi-story glass tower car vending machines, opened a new location in Mission Valley.

The online used car retailer is located at 1545 Camino Del Rio S, the company said on its website. Carvana’s car vending machine stands six stories and has a 19-vehicle capacity.

“This unique site sits right in the heart of Mission Valley and is conveniently accessible to our many local customers while also boasting plenty of space to support our local team and operations,” said Mike Fryer, Carvana Market Operations Manager. “We are proud to join the San Diego skyline and excited to create even more convenient and memorable experiences for our customers in the area.”

Carvana allows customers to pick up their vehicle at the car vending machine or have it delivered to their home.

Whole Foods Market to open location in downtown San Diego

This is how the car vending machine experience works:

  • Select and buy a vehicle from Caravana.com;

  • Schedule a pick up time;

  • Customer will receive a commemorative, oversized Carvana coin to activate the automated vending process;

  • Customers watch their newly purchased vehicle descend through the vending structure from the heart of the glass tower that has a 19-vehicle capacity.

The Mission Valley location is the second in the San Diego area, with the other being in Escondido.

Hours for the Mission Valley location are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
