Cascade's Emma Gates, Regis girls dominate track and field championships

Emma Gates is making her lasting impression on Cascade High School a great one.

The senior track and field athlete won three individual Oregon West Conference titles — 100 meters, 200 meters and high jump — to help the Cougars place second as a team in the 4A final on the girls side. She also helped the Cascade 4x400 relay team place second.

Heading into the state tournament, Gates has the best time in the 100 (12.33), best mark in the high jump (6-0.25) and second-best time in the 200 (25.58).

On the boys side, Stayton’s Travis King won the 100 and 200.

Philomath swept the girls and boys team 4A championships.

She shares the top high jump mark in the state with Gervais sophomore Olivia Boyd at 5-3, and she has the state’s top triple jump mark at 34-11.

On the boys side, Salem Academy’s Caleb McGraw won the shot put and discus. He has the state’s top shot put mark, shared with Regis’ Cameron Diacetis at 46-4.
