Case-Barlow Farm in Hudson will host a Military History Open House on June 12.

On Sunday, June 12, from 1 pm to 4 pm history buffs and interested residents alike are invited to Case-Barlow Farm, 1931 Barlow Road, to hear stories of Hudson's connection to the military and American history. View military memorabilia, see military uniforms from different eras, plus original maps of the advancement lines of the 3rd Army.

At 2 pm, guest speaker, Karen Baglieri, will be discussing her father’s secret mission in WWII. Karen has been featured on TV5 News. Karen’s father was a member of the “First Special Service Force”, a unique, elite fighting unit in WWII. It combined American and Canadian soldiers. Every modern-day special force unit can trace its roots to this group. About 1,800 men were in this elite group, but they accounted for 12,000 German causalities and 7,000 more who were captured. The enemy called this unit the “Devils’ Brigade.”.

Sheryl Sheatzley will follow telling of her father-in-law, John R. Sheatzley, who grew up in Canton, being one of 10 children. John was 26 years old when he entered the service as a Technical Sergeant in the 4th Armored Division, 3rd Army, where he rode under General Patton. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. John entered combat at Utah Beach in July 1944, his unit fought their way across Normandy, Northern France, all the way through Central Europe. He was with Patton at the Battle of the Bulge, marching 150 miles in 19 days. Open discussion will follow both presentations.

Cool off with an authentic Case-Barlow Farm root beer, walk the grounds and enjoy this exciting presentation in the farm's “Big Red” barn.
