Case High is celebrating the end of the COVID mask mandate in style. Check out their video

SWANSEA — Joseph Case High School Principal Brian McCann could see hundreds of smiling faces on Monday morning, and he’s made a video to inspire them.

The school is one of many across Massachusetts that will rescind its mandatory-masks rule on Monday, following guidance from the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The mask mandate, meant to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, has been in place since the start of the pandemic nearly two years ago.

To mark the occasion, McCann and a crew of singers, dancers and videographers put together a video called “Tomorrow (There's No Masks Tomorrow),” a parody of the classic number from the musical “Annie.”

Over stock footage of masks, school board meetings and masked students at lab desks, McCann belts out their version of the song: “We were stuck with a year, severe and lonely / And we followed the rules in schools each day / But don’t have to wear masks tomorrow.”

The video ends with a triumphant drone shot of McCann and students dancing in front of the building.

Case High has been known in recent years for producing fun, elaborate and highly theatrical viral videos to buck up the community, including “Snow-Day-a-Mia” based on the ABBA musical “Mamma Mia,” and “And We’re Back,” a parody of a song from “Hamilton.”

“Tomorrow” was written by McCann and performed by McCann, Neil Jeronimo and Isabella Manchester, with a host of student dancers.

While masks in the school building are optional for students and staff who still want to wear them, the DESE is still mandating masks on buses.
