Case remains unsolved after local woman killed last fall in Greensboro

Latoya Rucker told Channel 9 Friday night that she desperately hopes someone will come forward after her 19-year-old daughter was killed last year in Greensboro.

Kaneycha Turner was a star student-athlete at Statesville High School.

The student who had her life in front of her was struck and killed by a stray bullet in October 2022.

“She was definitely one of a kind,” Rucker said. “She was sweet. She was stubborn. She was silly. She loved to travel.”

Turner, who was a student at North Carolina A&T, was with her friends when they stopped by their apartment near campus to change clothes.

Turner and a 15-year-old were killed when they were caught in the middle of a shootout that night.

“Life is different,” Rucker said. “I miss her. I miss her real bad.”

Greensboro police have not made an arrest in the case, but Rucker hasn’t lost faith.

“Their working on it and they did say it’s a very complex case, because it’s harder than what they thought it was originally going to be,” Rucker said.

She really hopes someone calls the police with information.

“I’m angry,” Rucker said. “I really am. I don’t wish any ill will toward whomever it was but honestly, even when they get him, and I do have faith they are going to get him. I don’t think it’s going to bring any true solace to me because I still won’t have my child.”
