Cash Express raising funds for holidays
Nov. 16—RUSSELL — Cash Express is playing a role in holiday fundraisers again in the area.
The 18th annual Toy and Coat Drive will continue through Dec. 13 at Cash Express, at 1415 Diederich Blvd., Suite 3.
New, unwrapped toys, coats, shoes, clothing, nonperishable foods and cash donations will be accepted. Twenty-six drop-off locations will be offered in Russell, Flatwoods and Westwood, assistant manager Ricki Settle said.
A Fill the Police Cruiser event is planned for Dec. 1 at the same location.
The Russell Police Department will provide a cruiser from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1 for the public to fill with toys and coats, which also will go to the resource center; nonperishable food also will be accepted to go to local food pantries.
A bake sale is ongoing today, Friday and on Dec. 1 at the Cash Express office, with items like peanut butter cookies, chocolate chip brownies and "lumps of coal" (Oreo Rice Krispies treats) made by Settle and manager Savannah Thomas.
Settle said her office has "adopted" four children so far.
"We're trying to pick out things they would like and that will fit," she said. "Other items will go to other (charities) in the area."
