The Cashier's House, 417 State St., is slated to open in January as an American steakhouse called Bricks at the Cashier's House, co-owned by Chris Adams, 42, and Justin Stoll, 39.

The two met 20 years ago and worked together at Edinboro University's dining service, which changed hands last summer when the school merged with two other universities and changed its name to Penn West.

Stoll and Adams own the Straw Hat Ice Cream Shop and North Row Philly in the Flagship City Food Hall. Stoll recently worked as the sous chef at The Cork 1794 in West Erie Plaza and Adams works with the food service at Cathedral Preparatory School.

It was previously reported that the restaurant inside the Cashier's House would be an Italian bistro, but that project fell through and EDDC leader John Persinger and Mark Inscho, its director of food and beverage operations, approached Adams and Stoll about opening a steakhouse in the space.

"We got together, checked out the location and decided to make a go at it," Adams said. "We'll serve top-shelf steaks, seafood and alfredo for dinner. And we'll have a casual lunch with upper-end sandwiches and soups."

As they did at Edinboro, Stoll and Adams said they'll establish a vegetable garden to supply the restaurant with fresh produce and have committed to sourcing ingredients and products locally.

"We're big local guys," Adams said. "We try to use as much local stuff as we can."

They'll be open as a restaurant in January, and will be available for parties and events in December.

"We are super excited and we feel the location is perfect," Adams said. "We really need a good steakhouse downtown and we can definitely provide that with our culinary experience. The building is one-of-a-kind It has so much history."

A portion of the Cashier's House, 417 State St., will open in January as an American steakhouse restaurant that can seat 48 to 60 people, co-owner Chris Adams said.

He said the dining area is about 600 hundred square feet and can seat 48 to 60 people.

"It does have those awesome pocket doors, so we can run two parties at the same time, or a party and still be open (as a restaurant.)"

Adams said the restaurant will have a liquor license, but not a public bar.

Andora's Bubble Tea

I have to admit, I didn't know if this business would make it back when it opened. Way back in May of 2019, I had no idea what bubble tea was and didn't think Erie would go for something so exotic and specific. Shows how much I know. They're not only survived but thriving in a brutal economic climate. Congratulations, Andora!

Traci

I just had to write this one up because the picture (from Creek's Bar and Grille,  4935 East Lake Road) was so tempting, and I am anything but a bloody mary fan. I can't stand tomato juice, and making it spicy doesn't help much. However, if I walked into this place any time of day, and saw this spread, I think I'd give it another try. The Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary Bar is available Sundays, 9 a.m. to noon. I'm not saying skip church or anything. I'm just saying if you like bloody marys, well, this is pretty awesome.
