Cast of ‘The Irrational’ talks about final episodes of the season

(NBC) — After an extended break, “The Irrational” returns Monday with the first of four new episodes to wrap up its rookie season.

The show’s already been renewed for Season 2 later this year.

Learning terms like “compassion fatigue” is one of Jesse L. Martin’s perks while playing a character like Alec Mercer in “The Irrational.”

“I am an actor, first of all, so part of our job is to be observant of human behavior,” said Martin.

And that comes in handy for Martin off-camera in his poker games.

“I’m pretty well versed in, “tells,” if you will, like when people are lying, when they’re not,” said Martin.

In Monday’s episode, Mercer, a college professor helps authorities with a deadly arson case, which hits close to home for a character carrying scars from an unsolved bombing years earlier.

“That one, you’ll have to watch the rest of the season, with me,” said Martin.

But beyond breaking that very personal case, fans and the cast of “The Irrational” have a second season to look forward to.

“Yeah!  We did it! We did it. We thought we might, we didn’t know, but we did,” said Maahra Hill, who plays FBI agent Marisa on the show.

“I think that we have a lot more story to tell so, I’m thrilled about it,” said Travina Springer, who plays Kylie, Mercer’s younger sister.

And so is the man in the hat.

“I’m super excited about that, I also love that people love it and are watching it,” said Martin.

“The Irrational” returns Monday at 10 p.m. on NBC4 right after the first semi-finals episode of “AGT: Fantasy League.”
