Cast your vote for the top Ames-area high school sports performer for Sept. 26-Oct. 1

The Ames football team dismantled Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln on homecoming night in Ames on Friday by a score of 42-13.

A Nevada team ranked fifth in Class 3A won a 17-12 battle over rival Ballard, and Gilbert dropped a 28-25 heartbreaker to Algona in area high school football last week. Roland-Story remained perfect in 2A District 7 with a 42-29 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden, Collins-Maxwell suffered a 63-16 to a Baxter team ranked seventh in 8-player, and Colo-NESCO earned an 82-48 victory over Dunkerton.

In cross country the Ames girls placed second and the boys fifth at Southeast Polk, Ballard won the girls race and took third in the boys at Perry, and Collins-Maxwell placed third in the girls race and fifth in the boys at Ogden. Gilbert won the girls race and placed second in the boys at the Nevada Invitational, with Nevada taking fourth in both races and Roland-Story sixth in the girls and seventh in the boys.

In volleyball action Ames dropped three matches and a Nevada team ranked 10th in 3A went 4-2 during the week. Gilbert defeated Newton in five sets and fell to Bondurant-Farrar in four, Ballard suffered four-set losses to North Polk and West Marshall and Collins-Maxwell dropped five matches.

In girls swimming and diving Ames defeated Fort Dodge (130-56) and Ankeny (104-66). The Ames boys golf team took second at the Iowa Alliance Conference North meet in Marshalltown.

Jamison Poe

Poe had a big night for the Ames football team during its victory over Council Bluffs Lincoln Friday. The Little Cyclone running back scored four touchdowns. He had two scores rushing and two more receiving.

Jaxon Danielson

The Ames defensive back had three tackles and one sack during the Little Cyclones' victory over Council Bluffs Lincoln. Danielson also intercepted a pass that returned for 45 yards.

Dallas Sauser

The Ames quarterback was brilliant in his one half of action against Council Bluffs Lincoln. Sauser followed up his state-record 590 yards passing in last week's 57-28 victory over Sioux City North with another outstanding showing. Sauser completed 24 of 31 passes for 281 yards and four touchdowns.

Drew Robinson

Robinson came up big defensively for Nevada in its rivalry victory over Ballard Friday. Robinson intercepted two passes and he also racked up 11.5 tackles to help the Cubs prevail in a close one.

Eli Rouse

Rouse did all he could to keep Ballard close against Nevada. The Bomber running back carried the ball 25 times for 89 yards and two touchdowns. He also had four receptions for 41 yards.

Owen Wirth

Wirth played well for Gilbert in defeat Friday night against Algona. Wirth caught six passes for 116 yards and hauled in two touchdown receptions against Algona.

Jonovan Wilkinson

Wilkinson turned in another big game for Roland-Story in its victory over Iowa Falls-Alden. Wilkinson ran the ball 21 times for 219 yards and three touchdowns.

Breckin Clatt

Clatt ran the ball 14 times for 218 yards and two touchdowns during Colo-NESCO's lopsided victory over Dunkerton. He also was huge on special teams with two kickoff returns for touchdowns. Clatt added 11.5 tackles and an interception on defense.

Kaleb Gray

Gray also had a nice outing during Colo-NESCO's victory over Dunkerton. He ran the ball 14 times for 121 yards and three touchdowns.

Paityn Noe

Noe ran another outstanding race for the Ballard girls cross country team in helping the Bombers edge Adel-Desoto-Minburn by one point for the team victory at Perry. Noe, the No. 1 runner in Class 3A, ran a 5-kilometer time of 17:43 to beat third-ranked Geneva Timmerman by 59 seconds for first.

William Wadsley

Wadsley turned in a strong third-place showing for the Gilbert boys at Nevada. He crossed the finish line in 16:39.67. The only two runners to beat him were the Sporaa brothers (Zach and Max) from North Polk.

Lily Goos

Goos had a huge match for the Nevada volleyball team in a 25-13, 25-14, 25-15 sweep of South Hamilton Sept. 27 in Nevada. Goos had 19 kills on 50% efficiency against the Hawks. She also recorded six digs and two blocks.

Nicky Cory

Cory had a big match for Gilbert in a five-set victory over Newton. Cory had 12 kills on 30.8% efficiency. She also had five digs, four aces and two blocks.

Jackson Kepley

The Ames freshman was medalist runner-up at the Iowa Alliance North conference golf meet. Kepley carded an 18-hole round of 75. He beat Mason City's Michael Solberg-Maas by two strokes for runner-up behind Marshalltown's Ryan Schmit, who carded a 69.

Elizabeth Powers

Powers won two individual events for the Ames girls swimming and diving team against Ankeny and one against Fort Dodge. Powers won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:21.15 and the 200 freestyle in 2:00.44 against Ankeny. She also took the 100 butterfly against Fort Dodge in 1:02.60.
