Fort LeBoeuf, Harbor Creek, McDowell students voted GoErie.com Athletes of the Week
Athletes from three Erie County schools were the top vote-getters in this week's GoErie.com Erie County Athlete of the Week polls.
Fort LeBoeuf soccer player Jenna Popowski, Harbor Creek soccer player Sam Parente and McDowell quarterback were the winners in tight online voting that ran Monday from 5 p.m. through Wednesday at 5 p.m. More than 7,200 total votes were made.

Female Athlete of the Week
Jenna Popowski, Fort LeBoeuf: The Bison improved to 4-0-1 with help from the hat trick she scored during their 6-0 shutout of Mercyhurst Prep.
Popowski received 308 votes (14.17%) of the 2,173 votes cast. She was followed by Cathedral Prep volleyball player Cecelia Campbell (252, 11.60%).

Male Athlete of the Week
Sam Parente, Harbor Creek: He was the hero of the Huskies' dramatic 4-3 victory over Mercyhurst Prep with his goal in double overtime.
Parente received 963 votes (27.59%) of the 3,491 votes cast. He was followed by Cathedral Prep golfer Breckin Taylor (873, 25.01%).

Football Player of the Week
Ben Moore, McDowell: The quarterback was efficient through the air (13-of-18 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns) and tough on the ground (52 yards and one score) during the Trojans' 52-14 Region 6 win over Erie High.
Moore received 401 votes (24.01%) of the 1,670 votes cast. He was followed by Cathedral Prep kicker Cole Constable (375, 22.46%).

How it works: Each Monday, the Erie Times-News will select nominees for the Erie County Football Player of the Week, Male Athlete of the Week and Female Athlete of the Week. The Male Athlete of the Week includes all sports except football.
Polls are posted Monday at 5 p.m. and voters have through Wednesday at 5 p.m. to vote. Votes are limited to one per IP address or computer network.
The winners will be featured on GoErie.com each week. They will not be eligible for any polls held through the remainder of the PIAA's fall sports season.
