YORK - In what has become a Lenten tradition for many local Catholics, “To God Be the Glory,” the musical depiction of the life of Christ held at St. Christopher Church in York, is preparing for its 2022 edition set to take place March 31 to April 3.

The production has become an institution in the area since its first performances in 1994. Organizers seek to fill several roles, large and small, as well as fill positions on the crew, in wardrobe and makeup, and on the greeting team. Rehearsals start on March 6.

Though “To God be the Glory” was written by Rita Leroux in 1993, the script is pulled heavily from Scripture, chronicling the life of Jesus from the Annunciation to the Resurrection. It begins with the singing and signing of “We Believe,” and continues with the appearance of the Archangel Gabriel, Mary’s visit to Elizabeth, Jesus’ birth, the presentation of Jesus at the Temple, John the Baptist at the Jordan River, the calling of the apostles, Jesus’ ministry, the Last Supper, His crucifixion, and the Resurrection.
