New Castle man accused of trying to kidnap girl from Lawrence Co. Fair

Matthew Fehling of New Castle is in jail after police arrested and charged him for trying to kidnap a girl at the Lawrence County Fair over the weekend.

Police say they were called to the Ring of Fire Ride Friday night, where the alleged victim and her friend were upset and crying.

The girl told police Fehling tried to grab and take her away after he asked to take her photo, but she refused.

She said Fehling suggested they go to a secluded part of the fair to take pictures.

Her friend pushed Fehling away after he tried to grab the girl.

Both girls then ran over to security and Fehling chased after them.

They told police Fehling was recording them on his phone during the incident.

Police say Fehling ran away from security, but they were able to catch him in the parking area at the fairgrounds.

Some people who attended the fair said this is shocking.

“I think it’s just crazy. You see all over Facebook and Instagram that stuff happening, but you never expect it happening around you. It’s scary,” said Kendra Ramey.

Police said Fehling appeared intoxicated. When they searched him, he had a bottle of vodka and some pill bottles, they said. He was placed in the Lawrence County Jail, unable to post bail.
