New Castle woman accused of trying to bribe police officers

NEW CASTLE, Ind. — A New Castle woman is accused of offering city police officers a $2,000 bribe.

Katy Lynn Duncan, 31, was charged Monday in Henry Circuit Court 2 with bribery, a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison.

The offer — to pay the officers if they would release Duncan, who was being arrested — was allegedly made late Saturday, after New Castle police were sent to a reported family fight in the 500 block of North 11th Street.

Officers said Duncan struggled with them at the scene, and was being taken into custody for disorderly conduct when she offered them cash to "just her let go."

"I advised her to quit trying to bribe us," an officer wrote in an affidavit.

A breath test reportedly measured the New Castle woman's blood-alcohol content at 0.20. In Indiana, motorists with a BAC of 0.08 or higher are considered intoxicated.

Duncan — who apparently suffered a hand cut, on broken glass, during the struggle — was taken to Henry County Hospital before being delivered to the Henry County jail. While at the hospital, she reportedly "continued yelling, screaming and cursing at medical staff and officers."

Duncan continued to be held in the jail on Tuesday under a $14,000 surety bond and a cash bond of $1,500.

She was also charged Monday with three misdemeanors — resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana.

Court records reflect no prior charges against Duncan.
