As the coronavirus pandemic continues around the world, government officials are ordering everyone to stay at home as much as possible.

Everyone is struggling with the isolation – not to mention lack of entertainment and exercise – in different ways, but Casualty actor George Rainsford seems to be finding it difficult to lay off the snacks.

The soap star, who plays Ethan Hardy, took to Twitter on Monday (March 30) to joke that by the time the cast are due to start filming again, he's going to look like Aunt Sponge from Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach.

Just in case his followers weren't sure who the slightly larger fictional character was, Rainsford shared a visual too.

In the illustrated picture, a po-faced Aunt Sponge is sat there, drinking a cold beverage from a glass.

Fans were all too eager to join in on the joke and point out what a continuity issue this would prove to be in months to come, with one fan responding: "[That] will make continuity very interesting... 'Miracle as Ethan becomes 50lb heavier within one scene'."

Earlier this month, BBC announced that production on all its dramas, from EastEnders, Doctors, Holby City to Casualty, had been halted due to COVID-19.

Fortunately, many of the series are filmed weeks in advance and with the broadcaster announcing that many of the shows are cutting down on the number of weekly episodes, they'll be on air for a little while longer yet.

Casualty airs on BBC One.
