Casualty star Jaye Jacobs has admitted she "struggled" whilst filming the scenes for Donna Jackson's latest storyline.

In tomorrow's (September 16) double episode, Donna will learn her fate at the sentencing hearing following her car crash. Jacobs has revealed that she was affected by the lies her character told following the incident.

"I struggled with that, because Donna's always been straight up,” Jacobs told Inside Soap. "Although I put it down to the fact that she was extremely tired, and she thought she was going to get screwed over by the other people in the accident."

"So it was a defensive thing. It seemed like a good thing to do in the moment, but it was a web she couldn't then un-weave,” she added, before explaining how Donna is dealing with the prospect of time behind bars.

"She's doing what I would do, which is push it down and not really face it at all. But that's not very responsible – it would be helpful to make plans either way, but she's not really doing that. She's never been great at adulting."

Jacobs first played Donna in the spin-off show Holby City, with two stints on the medical drama before its conclusion last year. She made her debut on Casualty in March, with the actor saying her time on the soap had been "surreal" so far.

Whilst Donna is preparing to face the music, her romance with Max Cristie could be short-lived, as Nigel Harman confirmed earlier this week that he had completed filming his final scenes for the character, which will air in February.

"I left Casualty at the beginning of August," he revealed. "I finished my last scene on Monday, [then I] was here on Friday. I'm on screen until the end of February, and [I have] no plans to return at the moment."

Casualty airs on Saturdays on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
