Casualty spoilers follow.

Casualty star Nigel Harman has spoken about his exit from the soap, confirming he doesn’t have any immediate plans to return in the future.

The star, who previously appeared on EastEnders, joined the BBC medical drama earlier this year, making his debut as Max Cristie in February.

In an interview with Digital Spy and other media, Harman revealed that his time on Casualty will come to a close in the new year, with his final scenes being filmed last month.

“I left Casualty at the beginning of August,” he revealed. “I finished my last scene on Monday, [then I] was here on Friday. I’m on screen until the end of February, and [I have] no plans to return at the moment. Basically, I can dedicate my life to sweating and feeling anxious.”

It’s currently unknown how Max will depart the soap, although there are potential exit storylines with Donna Jackson, who he has recently gotten closer to, and his estranged daughter Jodie Whyte.

The interview was part of the preview for the upcoming 21st series of Strictly Come Dancing, which will see Harman compete against 14 other celebrities - including Les Dennis and Angela Scanlon - for the Glitterball trophy.

“I'm amazed, excited, and terrified to be doing Strictly," Harman said upon his announcement last month. “As an armchair fan of the show I have watched in awe as people have twirled and gyrated across the screen. And now it's my turn...gulp!”

With Strictly set to return next weekend, the newly announced It Takes Two host Fleur East recently teased that there could be some “dark horses” after viewing some of the early routines.

“There are a few dark horses, let me tell you that,” she teased. “When I saw them move, I thought those hips don't lie! There were people doing lifts you wouldn't expect to be doing lifts - it's going to be so good!”

Casualty airs on Saturdays on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer. Strictly Come Dancing returns for its launch special on September 16 on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
