Although no one ended up being home at the time, firefighters rescued two dogs and a cat. The cat died from its injuries.

The home had major damage. Officials said it wasn’t safe to occupy. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident of the home.

The Prince William County Fire Marshal’s Office said an electrical failure between the basement and first floor of the home caused the fire.
