Cat Rescued From Tree After Woman Turns To Crowdfunding To Raise $200

What do you do when your cat becomes stuck in a tree?

For most of us, the answer would be to enlist the help of a fire crew, or animal rescue teams.

But for Susie Butler, it was a crowdfunding campaign that eventually proved successful in rescuing Boots the cat, who got marooned in a 12m tree in Melbourne, Australia.

Susie started a Gofundme page to get her neighbour’s cat, Boots, freed after she was refused help from the RSPCA, the local council, and even the fire brigade.

Amazingly, the $205 needed for an animal rescue team to retrieve the animal was raised in just four hours, and even attracted donations from as far away as the U.S.

The daring rescue was eventually undertaken by animal rescue expert Nigel Williamson, who has been rescuing cats for over 30 years.

Unsurprisingly, though, it was the first time that a crowdfunding campaign had been used for his services, and he knocked $20 from the price after hearing about the fundraising efforts.

‘There’s never been a cat I haven’t been able to get down (from a tree)’, he said.

Susie recalled how Boots was eventually rescued after 36 hours in the tree - but showed initial signs of resistance.

‘Boots didn’t want to go in the bag but Nigel managed to get him in’, she said.

‘I never would have thought any of this would happen. (Boots) is definitely a celebrity.

‘I am just so glad he is down and that Stephanie and her son have their cat back!’
