Cat saved from garbage plant in Russia
When a worker at a Russian waste sorting plant miraculously rescued a cat from certain death, never would he have thought the animal would end up napping in a government official's chair and handed an honorary title.
The cat's unlikely rescue, broadcast on television and on social media, has turned it into a local celebrity and led him to be adopted by the Ulyanovsk region's environment ministry and unofficially named deputy environment minister.
Pictures from the ministry showed the cat napping in a swivel chair in the office of environment minister Gulnara Rakhmatulina and exploring its new environment.
The ministry has announced a nationwide contest to choose a name for the cat, which it said was found to be in good health after a veterinary exam.
