Cat stranded atop a utility pole in Milwaukee's Riverwest has been reunited with its owner

The cat that was stranded on top of a utility pole for an estimated three days in Milwaukee Thursday has been reunited with its owner.

Nairobi, a black male cat, found its way to the top of a utility pole in the Riverwest neighborhood, leading to nearby residents rallying to get it some help.

Eventually, workers with We Energies were able to rescue Nairobi by using a ladder, bucket and other equipment. The Milwaukee fire and police departments said they weren't able to help due to the lives wires attached to the pole.

According to Emilie Rackovan with Urban Cat Coalition, Nairobi was reunited with its owner on Friday after escaping a few weeks ago as a pet sitter was watching him.

Rackovan said in a Facebook post that the owners had been looking for him for weeks and feared he died while Milwaukee experienced subzero temperatures earlier this year.

Rackovan said the owner didn't want their name used, but Nairobi is now reunited with his feline brother.

"I’m absolutely thrilled that this story had a happy ending and a not-so-gentle reminder to MICROCHIP YOUR PETS AND UPDATE YOUR CONTACT INFO!!! Because of the chip, this reunion was possible," Rackovan wrote.
