Catawba College residence hall evacuated due to carbon monoxide leak

Dozens of students had to be evacuated from a residence hall at Catawba College in Salisbury, school officials said Tuesday.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the college campus and spotted first responders alongside students around noon.

A spokesperson with the school told Channel 9 that students reported they were experiencing health concerns Tuesday morning, and carbon monoxide was suspected.

Inspectors went into the Barger Zartman Hall boiler room and found a CO leak, according to the school. The cause of the leak hasn’t been released.

The building was evacuated, and the students were being evaluated for medical issues.
