Wembley stadium sale called off

The proposed sale of Wembley Stadium has been called off after billionaire Fulham owner Shahid Khan withdrew his offer.

Khan was set to buy the ground for a fee upwards of £600 million.

Amid much controversy, the FA had insisted it would invest the proceeds in grassroots football facilities.

May heads to Brussels to rescue Brexit deal

Theresa May is in Brussels to address EU leaders in a last-ditch effort to secure a Brexit deal with the European Union.

The prospect of a no-deal Brexit is looming ever larger as talks hit a deadlock over the issue of the Irish backstop to avoid a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The PM insisted in the Commons today that her Chequers Brexit plan is not dead.

Tens of thousands of benefits recipients to get refund

180,000 people will receive an average of £5,000 in backdated sickness benefits after a government error.

The Department for Work and Pensions revealed it had underpaid recipients by £1.5 billion after wrongly calculating incomes.

Some people are owed up to £20,000 following the mistake, which occured when people were moved onto the main sickness benefit, the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

£500,000 raised for four-year-old’s cancer therapy

The family of a four-year-old boy with a rare form of cancer have revealed their joy after raising £500,000 to fund his treatment.

An anonymous donor gave £100,000 to fund Zac Oliver’s treatment just days after Simon Cowell gave £50,000.

The money will pay for a new form of cancer treatment in the US. The NHS has not said why Zac cannot receive the treatment in the UK.
