It was a big week for Mason Short.

The 2025 offensive tackle, along with a number of other prospects, visited Athens Saturday to take in his first Georgia football home game as a potential recruit. The No. 1 Bulldogs defeated Kent State 39-22, but it was another opportunity to see what the program at Georgia is all about.

“It was an amazing experience," he said. "I got to spend lots of time with the staff before and after the game. Athens was very welcoming to me and my family."

Mason Short back in the trenches

On the field, he hit another milestone the day before. After missing the past two games with an injury, he returned to the field Friday and helped lead the Evans Knights to a 42-15 win over rival Grovetown. It was a welcome sight for an offense that desperately missed his presence the previous two weeks.

“Felt great to be back with the guys," he said. "It’s not very fun being on the sidelines watching my boys play their butts off and all I could do is cheer instead of being on the field.”

With that in mind, Short wasn't alone when he traveled to Sanford Stadium Saturday. He brought along teammate DJ Williams, a 2023 lineman for the Knights. The two even had a bit of fun with one of the Bulldogs' electric tight ends prior to kickoff.

“It was a core memory getting to experience it with DJ," Short said. "He had an amazing time and asked great questions with the coaches and staff. It was pretty cool hyping up how big (UGA tight end) Darnell Washington was prior to the game and getting to see his reaction was priceless.”

247Spots 5-star status

Short entered rarified air a couple weeks back as he earned the coveted fifth star from 247Sports. Regardless of how many accolades come his way, he's adamant about still being himself and focusing on the task at hand.

“It was definitely a blessing to receive my fifth star, but I won’t let that change me. I’m still just ol’ Mason who plays football. I don’t let the rankings get to my head. I just keep my head down and keep working.”

It's been a busy stretch for the 6-foot-7, 280-pound Short, starting with an Alabama visit at the beginning of September. He visited South Carolina two weeks ago, Georgia last weekend and he's set to travel to Clemson this weekend for the game against NC State.
