Catching up with former area athletes: Avon native Sees stands as No. 2 scorer for Viking women

Dec. 26—SIOUX FALLS — Augustana University women's basketball player Lauren Sees has stood out as a key starter for the Vikings' squad as Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play takes off.

Sees, a 5-foot-9 fourth-year junior guard from Avon, is averaging 14.5 points per game while shooting 86.2% on free throws. She is second on the team in scoring behind Aislinn Duffy, who averages 16.6 points per game.

Sees has started all 12 games so far this season, and scored in double-figures in eight of those contests. She had a season-high 19 points at Southwest Minnesota State on Dec. 1 in a 94-60 loss and matched that on Dec. 17 against Upper Iowa on 8-for-14 shooting in a 79-56 victory.

Sees, a two-time all-Northern Sun second-team selection, is also closing in on 1,000 career points, with 979 points to her name through 76 career games.

Augie (10-2, 5-2 NSIC) is set to visit Wayne State on Dec. 31 for an NSIC game in Wayne, Nebraska.

SIOUX FALLS — Mitchell High School graduate Zane Alm has moved into the University of Sioux Falls' men's basketball starting lineup in his redshirt freshman season.

Alm, the 6-foot-10 forward, has played in all 13 games for the Cougars and started in 11 of them while averaging five points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Alm also has 22 blocked shots, easily leading all Cougars.

He had a season-high 11 points and four blocks in a Nov. 17 contest against Dakota State, while he finished with seven points and 11 rebounds against Metro State Denver on Nov. 25. Alm did not play during his freshman season in 2021-22, redshirting through the campaign.

The Cougars (10-3, 5-2 NSIC) will pick up conference play on Dec. 31 with a home contest against Southwest Minnesota State at the Stewart Center.

YANKTON — Mitchell High School alumna Macy Kempf is playing a prominent role for Mount Marty University women's basketball in her sophomore season, as the Lancers' second-leading scorer through the first half of the season.

Kempf, a 5-foot-11 forward, has averaged 8.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 50% from the field. Only fellow forward Eve Millar has averaged more points this season than Kempf (10.7 points per game for Millar.)

Kempf has scored six times in double figures this season, including scoring 15 points in a home contest against Briar Cliff on Nov. 16.

Mount Marty (3-10) will host Presentation on Dec. 30.
