Cate Blanchett hits the red carpet at Berlinale

STORY: "I think it's a very challenging and rewarding film, and when we all made it, we had no inkling that it would have been embraced in the way that it has, which is extraordinary and embraced by so many different pockets of, you know, from the critics to the mainstream awards to the independent spirit," Blanchett told Reuters on the red carpet.

Nominated for six Oscars, the drama by filmmaker Todd Field has already brought Blanchett several nods, including a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for best leading actress.

In "Tar", a tense and timely classical music drama, Blanchett plays Lydia Tar, a world-renowned gay conductor of a major German orchestra whose seemingly unstoppable career hits the hurricane of an abuse scandal.

"Tar", which is screening in the sidebar Berlinale Special Gala section, will open in German cinemas on March 2.
