Hollywood star Cate Blanchett went on stage at Glastonbury Festival on Friday night to perform with US pop-rock duo Sparks.

Formed by brothers Ron and Russell Mael, Sparks perform keyboard and lead vocals respectively – and it appears Blanchett is a big fan of their work.

The two-time Oscar-winning actress recently appeared in the music video for the band's single The Girl Is Crying in Her Latte.

Speaking to the crowd ahead of their performance on the Park stage, Russell shared his delight at being able to invite the Lord of the Rings and Marvel actress to join them.

"Hopefully, as many of you know, we have a brand new album – it just came out a couple of weeks ago," he said.

"We have a super special treat tonight. We did a video for this song recently and we had the great honour of having the great actor Cate Blanchett join us. Where are you, Cate Blanchett?"

Sending the crowd into a frenzy, Cate walked on to the stage and danced along as the band performed – much like she does in the song's music video.

The Hollywood star displayed a series of energetic moves to the track, before bowing and leaving the stage without saying a word.

Sparks first met Blanchett in Paris last year, during the 2023 awards season for her performance in Todd Field’s film Tar.

"We met Cate Blanchett in Paris at the Cesar Awards last year," the Mael brothers said previously.

"Little knowing that a year later one of the great actors of our time – and a splendid person – would graciously consent to lending her booty-shaking skills to the first video from our new album."
