GREENVILLE - After rolling out classic rock for the last six Catfish Concerts, the Greenville Lions are going country this year.

Jon Pardi will headline the rain-or-shine event on July 8 at Greenville Lions Park with such hits as "Dirt on My Boots," "Heartache Medication" and his latest, "Last Night Lonely." Maybe he'll even unleash his cover of Metallica's "Wherever I May Roam" from last year's "The Metallica Blacklist" tribute album.

Lauren Alaina and Drew Green share the bill.

It's the first country lineup for the event since 2015, when Alabama and The Kentucky Headhunters took the stage. With the exception of headlining performances by country duo Montgomery Gentry in 2010 and 2005, the Catfish Concert has been primarily a rock event during its 20 years. ZZ Top, Cheap Trick and Foghat played to a sold-out crowd last year. Styx, 38 Special and Great White were also a sellout in 2021.

This year's announcement on the Greenville Lions' Facebook page has generated nearly 400 comments. While some people expressed their disappointment in the departure from rock, others were excited to see country return.

General admission tickets are $45 in advance and $55 at the gates, if available. Tickets go on sale April 1 through Ticket Star at ticketstaronline.com, 800-895-0071 and the Resch Center box office.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Music begins at 6 p.m. Lawn chairs are allowed but no carry-ins.

The concert caps off Catfish Extravaganza weekend, which also features catfish races, a catfish fry and children's activities. The Greenville Lions are celebrating their 50th year in 2023.
