The Covid-19 pandemic paused the popular Cathead Jam music festival. Now, it's back, and organizers are expecting a big turnout.

The two-day festival on the edge of downtown Jackson returns this summer for the first time since 2019. Attendees can expect a memorable weekend with different headliners from all over the country and new up-and-coming artists. The event takes place at Cathead Distillery.

Owned by founders Austin Evans and Richard Patrick, the Cathead Distillery is located on the edge of downtown Jackson, and currently produces seven award-winning, small batch spirits.

This year’s line-up of entertainment includes rock music and blues from The Flaming Lips, Band of Heathens, Shakey Graves, Larkin Poe, Daniel Donato, Goose, Epic Funk Brass Band, and Cimafunk. The Flaming Lips headline the event at 9 p.m. Saturday. Fan favorite Shakey Graves comes on at 7:15, right after Grammy-nominated Larkin Poe, which no doubt will play their popular song, Mississippi.

Goose, coming off of selling out Red Rocks, headlines the Friday shows, going on at 10:05 p.m.

Ardenland, which is promoting the festival, said there will be food vendors, both local and from around the state, such as Green Ghost Tacos. Expect cocktails from Cathead Distillery to be flowing.

Children are welcome this is a family filled event, promoters said, but the event lasts long into the night so if you have small children, you may want to grab a babysitter.

Profits will support the Dreamnote Foundation, which pledges "to improve access to music and art throughout Mississippi in underserved communities."
