Cathedral boys swim team wins TAPPS, Division I title

The Cathedral boys swimming team won the TAPPS Division I state championship Wednesday at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio.

Cathedral defeated 11 other teams and scored 336 points. The Village School was second with 287 points.

Cathedral finished second and third in the 200-yard individual medley with Sebastian Machado earning second in 2 minutes, 6.35 seconds and Nareg Aidanian finishing third in 2:08.43. In the 100-yard butterfly, Ian Ramirez-Aizawa was fourth in a time of 54.67.

In the 500-yard freestyle, Diego Young placed fifth with a time of 5:16.92, the 200-yard freestyle relay was fourth with a time of 1:35.08, Young was sixth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.63 and Aidanian was third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.33.

On the girls side, Loretto Academy tied for 7th out of 15 teams with 107 points. The Angels tied with Houston's Incarnate Word Academy.

Loretto Academy's 200-yard medley relay team placed seventh with a time of 2:00.85 and Tenley Reha placed eighth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.12) to lead the way.

In TAPPS Division III, Radford School's had its very first TAPPS state swim champion, Isaiah Eichel. He won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.82.
