YOUNGSTOWN − The national CatholicTV network is once again available in all six counties in the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown.

An agreement with Armstrong Cable and Charter/Spectrum providers and the diocese has led to an expanded partnership that also puts the diocese’s cable television ministry, which dates to the early 1980s, into homes in Stark, Columbiana, Mahoning, Portage, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties.

CatholicTV now appears on Spectrum lineups at Channel 380, and on Armstrong Cable at Channel 45, and on Massillon Cable at Channel 117.

Daily Mass times are 9:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday; 7 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. Sunday. A Spanish Mass is broadcast at 8 a.m. Sunday.

In 2021, the diocese discontinued the Ecumenical Television Channel as part of its process of developing a new media strategy to more effectively communicate across the diocese. The strategy launched in early 2023, with The Catholic Echo print magazine and online multimedia hub.

After the announcement ETC would be discontinued, discussions began between Youngstown Bishop David Bonnar; Rev. James Korda, who retired in 2022 as president of the Catholic Telecommunications Network of Youngstown; Bishop Robert Reed, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Boston and president and CEO of CatholicTV; along with leadership from the diocese and CatholicTV, to find ways to continue serving viewers who rely on Catholic cable television.

CatholicTV can be seen in more than 13 million households, including most of New England, Michigan, Hawaii, Louisiana, Ohio, Tennessee, the Virgin Islands and Vermont. It is also available via Roku and Google TV.

CTNY, which was created in 1980, has had various ecumenical and interfaith partners through its history, as well as the Society of St. Paul in Canfield.

In 2022, CTNY was consolidated into the diocesan Department of Communications, which continues to produce televised programming, livestreams and videos, as well as the radio program Wineskins and The Catholic Echo Podcast, both hosted by Korda.

As part of this renewed partnership, the diocese will contribute to CatholicTV’s national programming.
