Cathy Null, who died in a fire in Loganville, remembered; fundraisers underway

Cathy Null, who died after being pulled from a house fire in Loganville earlier this week, was a huge part of the community, her niece, Alecia Odom, said.

Null was serving on borough council when she died and was running as a write-in candidate for mayor. She volunteered for a local fire company and libraries.

She loved her family and adored her 21-year-old daughter, Odom said.

"She was an amazing person," she said. "She's definitely going to be missed."

Ron Tombesi, president of Loganville council, remembered Null as "bubbly" and always in a good mood. She was involved, worked hard, and took pride in her vote. Whenever anyone needed help, she was ready to jump in.

"It's been hard on all of us here," he said.

Null's husband and daughter escaped from their burning home Tuesday morning in the first block of South Main Street.

Firefighters got Cathy Null out of the building, but she succumbed to her injuries while being treated by EMS, state police said.

Fundraisers started for the family

Odom has started a Go Fund Me to help Null's husband and daughter with the funeral expenses, any out-of-pocket medical costs and anything housing-related that is not covered by insurance.

So far, it has raised $8,390.

A donation drive also is underway at Mamma's Pizza in Loganville. The public can drop off money, gift cards and donations, the restaurant's Facebook page states.

Null was the second elected official in York County to die in tragic circumstances this month. East Manchester Township Supervisor Steven Gross Jr. died in a farm silo over Labor Day weekend.
