Will CATS buses run on Monday? What about Publix? What’s open and closed on Memorial Day

Memorial Day weekend is almost here and there are several businesses and local services that will either be closed or unavailable for the holiday.

While many Charlotte offices and stores will be limited in observance of the federal holiday, on Monday, there are some that will still be open with varying hours.

Here’s a list of what will be open and closed in Charlotte on Memorial Day:

Charlotte Area Transit System

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) call center, lost and found, pass sales and information offices will be closed Monday. Normal operating hours will resume on Tuesday. All CATS bus routes, LYNX Blue Line and CityLYNX Gold Line, will operate on a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day and switch back to normal operating schedule on Tuesday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools

There will be no school on Monday for CMS schools, in observance of Memorial Day, according to the 2022-2023 academic calendar.

Grocery and retail stores

Some grocery and retail stores will be closed on Memorial Day, but several will be open for the holiday. RetailMeNot rounded up a list of chains that you can still shop at on Monday:

  • Dollar General

  • Dollar Tree

  • HomeGoods

  • Macy’s

  • Michaels

  • Publix

  • Sam’s Club

  • Walmart

Local grocery stores such as Harris Teeter, Food Lion and Whole Foods will be open but may have adjusted holiday hours.

Shopping malls

Carolina Place: Open Monday 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Individual store and restaurant hours may vary.

Charlotte Premium Outlets: Open Monday 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Concord Mills: Open Monday 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

Northlake Mall: Open Monday 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

SouthPark Mall: Open Monday 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Mail Services

In observance of the holiday, The United States Postal Service offices will be closed on Memorial Day.

Mecklenburg County Services

According to the Mecklenburg County website, most offices and services will be closed on Memorial Day including all units of the Department of Social Services, Public Health, Tax Office, Elections Office, Register of Deeds Office, Land Use and Environmental Services Agency Offices and Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Centers.

All Recreation and senior centers, indoor aquatic facilities and nature centers will be closed but parks, seasonal pools and spraygrounds will be open.
